Google Places (part of the Maps Platform) gives you access to the world's largest database of local businesses and points of interest. OpenClaw makes it conversationally accessible.

  • Text search — Find places by query: "coffee shops near Union Square" or "24-hour pharmacies in Austin"
  • Nearby search — Find places within a radius of a specific location, filtered by type
  • Place details — Name, address, phone number, website, hours, price level, rating, total reviews, photos, business status
  • Place autocomplete — Fuzzy name matching for disambiguation ("Shake Shack NYC" → specific location)
  • Place photos — Get photo URLs for a specific place
  • Reviews — Read top customer reviews with rating and text

  • Nearby search requires a latitude/longitude center point — the agent can geocode an address first
  • Place types follow Google's taxonomy: `restaurant`, `cafe`, `lodging`, `hospital`, `shopping_mall`
  • Price levels: 0=free, 1=inexpensive, 2=moderate, 3=expensive, 4=very expensive
  • Results include `place_id` — use this for subsequent detail or photo requests
  • Place photo URLs are temporary — request them fresh for each use case
  • Combine with Routes: find a place, then get driving directions from your current location
